Several weeks back when the troop went camping, they began working on the fishing merit badge. One of the requirements was to clean and cook fish. Unfortunately, that weekend they didn’t catch what they needed so this week at the meeting they got a chance to do it with fish from a local monger.
We are fortunate to have several expert fishermen in our group to teach the boys the finer points of fishing.
The second part of the meeting was dedicated to creating the luminaries our parish lights on Christmas eve. One of the staff members found an idea on Pinterest. She brought it to the scouts and requested that they make them as a service project. We had to tweak the details but we found a winning solution. The goal is to make 150 by Christmas eve. It is going to require multiple meetings but they are now underway. Many hands make light work, they say, and in this case, it’s definitely true.
That’s heavy duty service.
