There is a big difference between the number of camping trips the Boy Scouts take versus the number the Cub Scouts take—once a month versus twice a year. I believe the camping is one of the parts that Walker likes best. This weekend he and Bill headed off with the troop to the Garden of the Gods in the Shawnee National Forest. This happens to be very near our boys’ favorite camp.
Garden of the Gods boasts great trails for hiking and breathtaking vistas. They planned to hike in and camp so they had to pack everything they’d need on their backs.
Don’t they look prepared?
This is the group—Ben, Jerett, Bill, Walker, Phil and Joseph. Noah went too but was camera-shy.
The unofficial Garden of the Gods website shows more great views.
From all accounts, they had an awesome time. They hiked all day, set up camp and then crashed under the stars by 8 PM. In the morning, they had breakfast, cleaned up camp, and hiked back to the van. Just before they loaded up for the drive back, Noah, the most senior scout, casually said to the younger scouts, “If you brought deodorant on this trip, now would be a good time to use it.”
That is an example of scout teaching at its best and the best line ever.
Looks beautiful!
I fear my son is probably one who did NOT bring or use.
