A Sunny Stroll

Because Bill was off today, we had time to take a stroll down by the river this morning. The temperature was brisk but the sunshine made the walk so enjoyable. We decided to stay close to home and chose the river path. There have been extended flood warnings in place lately due to lots of rain.  The river was quite high and consequently, the banks were submerged. In fact, the outdoor patio at the waterfront restaurant was completely underwater.

We walked the distance from St. John to the new lock and dam.  Since we last took this path, a new lookout was established and a bench was placed.

The water at the lock and dam was also very high. At this level, I don’t know if the locks are operational or necessary.

We were just back to where we parked the car, when I asked Bill to take a picture with me.

That’s when I spied the painted rock.

We happily got 7 miles in before Mason was dismissed from school and that put smiles on both of our faces.

  • I do remember flooding during my days in Newburgh! (I remember one street being closed for an extended time and some stupid people going around the sign.) Since we have been here we have had only one instance of flooding, but it was a terrible flash-flood and it took out the YMCA! Hundreds, maybe thousands of people had to have basement repairs. (We actually missed it all because the water came and went so fast. It wasn’t until I heard from other people, and saw all the basement carpet etc. for hauling away, did I know how bad it was.) Ugh!! Hopefully the water quickly went down for Newburgh.
