As I mentioned in an earlier post, half of our family went to San Francisco after camp. While Mason and I were exploring New York, Bill and Walker were in San Francisco. They enjoyed a good night sleep at their hotel and were up and running early on Sunday morning. They started with 7 AM mass in Burlingame and then had breakfast at Crepevine.
It was a tough choice but Walker settled on
They had big plans for the day. They started at Facebook is located at One Hacker Way before heading Apple’s current headquarters and then Apple Park, their new headquarters under construction. Then they were off to the Google Headquarters.
They visited Google’s sculpture garden where a sculpture is installed each time a new Android operating system is developed.
They drove along the beach to see the shore and on their way, Bill showed Walker where I used to live on Outer Geary.
My apartment with my roommate Michelle was across the street from this fire station at 7700 Geary.
Receiving these photos were a great surprise. Bill showed Walker where he had tried to teach me how to use rollerblades. It was a steep hill at the end of Outer Geary. Walker looked at his father and said, “That seemed like a very bad idea.” It turns out that Walker was wise beyond his years. The lesson ended abruptly when I crashed on the hill.
From there they cut through the VA Hospital to get a good view of the Golden Gate Bridge from a distance
and then parked and walked about halfway across. Walker had a super sized shrimp burrito in the Mission District and Bill continued to point out personal and historic landmarks including the corner where Bill lost his wallet last Fall. Then it was time to drive to Stanford and tour the campus. They popped into Jamba Juice, which apparently boasted exceedingly slow service as well as high priced drinks, and they explored the campus bookstore.
They discovered their second sculpture garden of the day, this time the New Guinea Sculpture Garden. These totem pole sculptures were created by master carvers from Papa New Guinea who worked in residence at Stanford.
Finally, it was time to check Walker in for camp and get him settled in his dorm in Roble Hall. He shared his room with three other guys. He will be here for two weeks attending an iDTech camp called iOS App Development With Swift.
One thing that impressed Walker was how many students rode bicycles all over campus. There were bikes and bike racks everywhere.
Bill made sure that Walker was settled in for the opening activities and then he made his way to the airport via Trader Joe’s. He chose a San Francisco burrito for dinner. It might have been a hard choice since SFO boasted a lot of great venues for dinner. Ah, California food!
After a red eye flight on Virgin Atlantic, Bill spotted JFK Airport on the decent into NYC.
Very good picture documentation by your hubby! We were in San Fran at the other end of the month!
I agree. Great photos
