Our troop’s activities include camping once a month. The leaders decided that they would kick off the year with an overnight at our scout house. This would give the boys, especially the newest ones, an opportunity to work on basic skills and get them signed off before our court of honor next weekend.
We do not have a flag pole but Bill cleverly rigged a set of pulleys on a tree so they could practice proper flag handling.
Brad is supervising proper sawing technique
while these boys practice safe knife skills and whittling.
Some of the scouts needed to sign off on cooking outdoors so they made macaroni and cheese to accompany the pizza they had delivered.
While many camped in their tents, Mason slept in a shelter he made to satisfy the last requirement of the wilderness merit badge.
They ended the night with stories and s’mores around the campfire.
We all met at church for 8:45 mass on Sunday morning. From all reports, this was one of the more successful and well-attended campouts.
great idea to camp close by! Anna and I camped last weekend without a boyscout in site (more on that later)
Joel is being twarted by the cooking merit badge…it is his last required badge, but he doesn’t have time to go camping much anymore with sport activities. He had taken cooking at camp 2 years ago, but the merit badge counselor didn’t have his ducks in a row and Joel didn’t get credit…then this year they cancelled that merit badge at camp……He has to go on a hike and cook outside….we are going to have a family outing!!! (I hear that can count if you take pictures)
