In keeping with the mission to serve, the Scouts (Boys, Girls, Cubs and Daisies) all lent a hand at the soup kitchen today. It is good to serve and even better to serve with friends.

Ablaze!
Tonight we came out of the darkness of Lent and entered into the light of the Resurrection. Thanks to the Boy Scouts, we had one big blaze. After opening prayers, the seminarian lit the Easter candle from it and Deacon Tony then helped others receive the light. We processed into the dark church with our […]
Blue and Gold Dinner
The February pack meeting was our annual Blue and Gold Dinner. Besides offering all the scout families an opportunity for fellowship over a meal, it’s the time when the cub scouts are recognized for their accomplishments. Mason’s Webelos leader was enthusiastic and poured his energy into the meetings. He taught the boys how to do […]
Scout Mass
Today was the Scout Sunday at St. John’s parish. After Mass, the scouts had an awards ceremony. Walker helped plan it and then acted as the Master of Ceremonies as a requirement for one of his merit badges. The Cub Scouts were awarded their Duty to God and Parvuli Dei Religious Emblems by Deacon Tony. […]
Divide & Conquer
Friday night we drove up to the suburbs of Chicago with goals in mind for all three boys. Bill and Walker were going to attend a Merit Badge University hosted by the Blackhawk Area Council and Mason and I were going to explore a video game arcade. After the MBU was over, we were going […]
Kicking off Christmas Break
Bill and Walker left Friday night for a scout camping trip to Camp Ondessonk. It was Walker’s big dream to camp there with scouts during Winter. They stayed in Lalemant. Their bunks overlooked a smaller channel of Lake Echon. It’s accessible via either the Goupil Footbridge or the Amantacha Swinging Bridge. They went on hikes […]
Trekking Through Terre Haute
Walker is on a tear to get his merit badges done so we signed him up for Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Mason and I drove up with him and spent the day wandering around Terre Haute. My friend Jenni gave us some suggestions of places to go and things to do. Square donuts? […]
Zip It!
This month the Boy Scouts wanted to have a campout that included zip lining. Fortunately, they found a site that had both. It was located just an hour away and the campsite was conveniently located on property. It was a small group overnight but a few more joined in for the zipping. Mason and […]
Scouts Abound
I couldn’t help but sing the Eagle’s song as we drove out to Old Ben’s in Winslow, Indiana. Arriving there and driving back to the campsite reminded me of last weekend. It was a beautiful, wooded area with wide open spaces to pitch tents. We arrived to a flurry of activities. Bill and Walker had […]
Old Ben, Here we Come
Have I mentioned that the Boy Scouts camp about once a month? This month the camping has a special slant—Troop 330 and Pack 330 are camping together. The group of Boy Scouts is smaller this month so they left with the trailer from our house. It was loaded to the gills with all of the […]
