Today started off with a bang! I ran five miles for the first time in ages. The sun shone and the spring flowers were in bloom.
Then I went to a meeting in Brooklyn, New York! Covid has given me to opportunity to Zoom with people I know from other parts of the country. Today I was “in the same room” with a longtime buddy and boy, it lifted my heart to see her!
I ran some errands including dropping off a donation at the food pantry. I ran by Starbucks and picked up a beverage for Liz as a thank you for a favor she had done for me.
My sweater got a bath and I laid it out to dry. I am hoping that with the blocking wires and pins in place it will grow.
I cast on a new hat and made great progress on it while at Mason’s doctor appointment.
Meanwhile, tonight was the senior prom for Walker’s friend, Josie. Of course, prom was cancelled but his mom went all out anyway. She sent Walker the boutonniere he would have worn and suggested the two of them eat a fancy meal and Zoom.
Josie sat on her porch sipping sparkling cider and eating a lovely meal and Walker picked up sushi and salmon hibachi and camped in his room. From Josie’s vantage point Walker was as dressed up as she was, except for he was wearing pajama bottoms.
Lastly, in anticipation of the governor’s announcement today about how Indiana would reopen starting May 4th, Walker’s employer sent out a feeler for who would be available to work. In his update, the governor declared in this stage two of five how restrictions would be eased:
Essential travel restrictions will be lifted and social gatherings of up to 25 people permitted.
State government offices will open for limited interaction with the public.
Manufacturers, industrial and other infrastructure operations that had not been considered essential will also open.
Retail and commercial businesses will open at 50% capacity.
Shopping malls may open at 50% capacity with indoor common areas restricted to 25% capacity.
Restaurants and bars that serve food may open starting May 11 at 50% capacity, but bar seating will remain closed.
Personal services, such as hair salons, barber shops, nail salons, spas and tattoo parlors also may open on May 11 by appointment only and must follow social distancing guidelines.
Those who work in office settings are encouraged to continue to work remotely whenever possible. Anyone who could work from home is encouraged to continue to do so.
This news was promising but also a little daunting. Things are not normal yet and we feel a little vulnerable about venturing out.
