Last month when I posted about the half marathon in October, I alluded to a monthly ten mile run. Sometime at the end of last year, I decided that I wanted to have a running goal for 2014. At some point in the future, I would like to run longer distances again but in the meantime, I wanted to establish and maintain a strong running base. I decided that a double digit run once a month would be manageable. Ten seemed like a nice round number.
As circumstance would have it, I got to start my goal at the end of 2013. I kept my friend Kristy company for ten miles last November when she had to run a long run for her January marathon. In December she and I ran a local ten mile race that I have always wanted to do. By the time January rolled around, I was already two months into my running goal for 2014. Since then, I have just kept going.
I have to admit that it has not been easy to do this. Thus far, I have run every ten miler outdoors. I have faced a whole year of elements. I have learned to juggle time and commitments to avoid interfering with family time as best as possible.
We’ll be out of town next weekend for Thanksgiving and the weather was relatively balmy weather. Right after school Mass, I plugged in my headphones and headed for the river walk trail. Another ten goes down in the books.
Where did you ever come from? There are times I just have to admit that you are also your Father’s daughter too! However, I still maintain the greater half!
