Tonight was the second speech meet. This year we have forty-two students participating and quite a number of sixth boys competing (pictured here). Mason is competing in the category of humorous interpretation. According to the rule books, selections in this category must come from published works, be memorized and humorous. They must also have at least two characters and consist mainly of dialogue. The speaker is supposed to recreate the characters and make them seem alive and real to the audience. A large component of the judging rests on the quality and use of voice and the correct and consistent interpretation of characters.
Mason chose to do a chapter from Junie B. Jones Jingle Bells, Batman Smells (P.S. So Does May.) by Barbara Park.
He placed third this week. It’s hard to tell if he was proud or not, but I sure was!
