Caching In and Around Town

Today’s beautiful weather was the perfect opportunity to spend some family time outdoors. We decided we better take advantage of the sunshine to check on and service our geocaches.  We drove around to each location and made sure the caches were where they were supposed to be and that they still had dry logs inside.  […]

Field Trip::Berry Plastics

I caught up with Mason and some of his friends during the walking program.  They were quite excited about the third grade field trip to Berry Plastics and proudly showed me their t-shirts. Every year around the week of Earth Day, all the third graders go on a field trip  to Berry.  The company challenges […]

Signs of Spring

Everywhere we look, things are starting to green up and grow which means it’s mowing season.  Today was the first time this year that Bill and Walker took their turn mowing at the scout house. When Bill sent me this picture, I smiled.  It doesn’t seem like that long ago that Walker was pushing a […]

Ba, Ba, Ba, Baritone

You wouldn’t know it from the look on Walker’s face, but tonight was the exciting Spring band concert comprised of Catholic middle students from all the schools on the East Side. Joseph and Walker were seated together.  They are the two sixth graders from our school who play the baritone. I love the fact that […]

Off at the Camporee

This weekend was the Spring Camporee, drawing Boy Scout troops from all over, for camping at Angel Mounds. In preparation for this trip, Walker, being a new and enthusiastic patrol leader, encouraged his friend to sign up to be the grub master.  Davis is fairly new to scouting and just beginning to work toward advancement.  […]

A Wilderness Hike

When Bill put a call out to the scout parents for a volunteer to lead the Spring hike, I don’t think he ever guessed that the hike would include a behind-the-scenes tour and early entrance at our local zoo and botanic garden.  However, that is just what happened.   The tiger den leader happens to be […]

Backed Down

Running along the Ohio River is one of my favorite ways to start the day.  We are just 1.2 miles from the river path and I enjoy taking in the sights while I run.  Today the water was remarkably high but even more noteworthy was the location of this barge and tug.  I don’t recall […]

A Rout* of Wolves

I got to spend the evening with Mason and the other wolves at their den meeting.  Tonight’s topic dealt with safety and preparedness on hikes and the like.  The leader and his son also taught about sunscreen and did a demonstration using whistles for search and rescue.  The wolves probably had the most fun turning […]

Happy Easter

Our Easter bunny got sneaky this year and left the baskets on the stairs.  Each of the boys received a new assortment of books and eggs filled with dollar bills.  Easter morning it was bright out. We had a quiet day at home and a lovely Easter Sunday.

A Mega Hunt

The weather was absolutely beautiful for our friends’ annual egg hunt.  Every year the invitation list gets longer as the number of friends grows.  It’s a special celebration because it brings together families from so many circles—theirs and ours.  Their Easter Bunny doesn’t mess around.  They filled and hid 7,057 eggs.  Yes, 7,057!  According to […]
