Hot Wheels!

Since the boys have gotten older and their love of Tonka has matured, Bill thought they’d enjoy the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.  While it might seem crazy, we drove up and back this weekend.  It was seven hours each way.  The driving was shared between Walker and Bill. We rolled in early […]

Land of Sweets Cowl

There is always knitting going on in my house but not all of it makes its way on my blog.  This cowl, however, was a really special finish.  I bought the yarn in September at my aunt’s celebration of life and I was so happy that it didn’t marinate in a drawer for long. I […]

Welding

Today Mason traveled with several scouts from our troop to his first merit badge university.  Vincennes University was one of the MBU locations that Walker really liked (college campus, interesting topics, and great food at the cafeteria) and we had hoped Mason would feel similarly. Mason chose a merit badge new to our family—welding. We […]

Snow day!

We had a pretty decent snow fall which closed school again.  I took Mason and his friend Cole to the scout house for a little sledding.  They brought sleds from home and pulled out the scout Klondike.  It turns out the snow was not packed enough for sledding of any sort but it was perfect […]

Shovel!

Shovel! There was plenty of snow to turn this job into free exercise. Walker and I were a team. We were both amused at the snow we found embedded in our doormat.

Buoyant

Even though it is winter outside and school is actually closed today for snow and ice, summer will be here before we know it. Summer means camp and camp means swim tests.  We signed up at the YMCA so Mason could build up his stamina in the pool.  Besides doing distance, the Boy Scout swim […]

Drinks with My Kid

Last Friday when I picked up Walker from school, we spent a little bit of time hanging out downtown.  There is a coffee shop called River City about a block or two from Walker’s school that a number of folks had mentioned to me both for their coffee and their wares.  Those two details made […]

SIG Winter Formal

Tonight was the Signature Winter Formal. A group of Walker’s friends invited him to join them for dinner at Biaggi’s first and then they went to the Old National Events Plaza. I didn’t get any pictures of him before he left but through the magic of the cloud, I have this collage.  It looks like […]

Three Kings Bread

Although Walker has had introduction to Spanish classes at St. John, his language acquisition began accelerating at a rapid pace when he started in the immersion classes at Signature.  (I still recall what they told us at SIG on the the night we enrolled in classes. “Don’t choose a language that you think is easy.  […]

Bugging Out!

Mason earned a B. U. G. (Bringing Up Grades) Award for the Second Quarter.  He has been working so hard in school so it was great to celebrate that.  Now we just need to see if we can spot him among all these smiling faces.
