The Flora at the Biltmore

The grounds and the gardens at the Biltmore were bursting with color and the buds on the trees were beautiful.  Many of the brightest blossoms were found in the Conservatory.  All of that color was a sight for sore eyes and a tease for the Spring that will soon come to pass in Indiana.

A Good Kind of Spam

Before we headed back towards home, we tried our luck at a few more caches.  As is the case sometimes, the first one we sought out was not where it was supposed to be.  Hoping our second attempt would yield better results, we went pursued another.  Off on the side of the road, tucked in […]

The Biltmore House

It was drizzling when we arrived at the Biltmore but the rain slowed no one down.  The tour busses picked us up from the parking lot and drove us to the estate’s entrance.  The Biltmore is the largest privately owned home in the United States with 250 rooms (35 of which are bedrooms), 43 bathrooms, […]

Spring Break—Travel Edition

It is true that books can take you to new places and that’s just what happened as a result of Mason reading The Mystery of the Biltmore House by Carole Marsh.  He was so enthusiastic about the book and expressed a strong desire to go visit.  Spring break and a long weekend were just the […]

Spring Break—Home Edition

Since Walker got scheduled to serve daily mass before we had a big plan for Spring Break, we decided to keep things mellow until we leave for North Carolina on Friday.  Monday was generally mellow.  I made big waffles for breakfast as a treat.  We went to the Y to swim and we had plenty […]

Look Who Came to Dinner

Ever since Bill started filling the feeders with thistle and suet, we have had a full house.  The squirrels have always tried to sneak food for themselves, so this time we actually put something out for them.   On the human front, Mason has been asking for a while to visit Old Chicago to have what […]

En Garde

Meet our fencer.  Mason has expressed an interest in fencing and persistently asked about taking lessons for several months. We did some research and discovered there is only one place in our area that offers lessons and there is a single time each week when the lessons are given.  Apparently, there is not a huge […]

Meet Tony Dungy

I never posted about the project that Mason finished up while I was in Los Angeles.  For Black History month, each student studied a famous African American, dressed up a two liter bottle to look like him or her and wrote a report.  Mason chose Tony Dungy. Tony Dungy was born on Oct. 6, 1955 […]

Sandals are coming!

The first pedicure of the season always feels so good.  It’s still a little cool to go fully in flip flops so my pedicure socks still come in handy.  I put them on after I got home and wouldn’t you know, they were a perfect match for my polish.  Lucky coincidence!

It Takes a village

Knowing how much work Walker invested in his part of the colonial village, I wanted to take a tour.  Let’s start at the Town Hall. Here is the print shop. I believe this one is the school. The tanner The mason I’m not sure about this one… The blacksmith The cooper Looking into the apothecary […]
