Not a Stairway

On the last day before Walker got back, Bill, Mason and I headed out for some geocaching.  We found one off the beaten path in a wooded area and then we stumbled upon this ladder.  If there is such a thing as a stairway to heaven, what shall we call this?

Lodge Week!

Today we dropped Walker off at Camp Ondessonk. When we planned his camp schedule, we signed him up for Traditional Camp this week but since he got inducted into Lodge earlier this summer, our options changed.  Attending Lodge Week with the other Lodge campers was too exciting an option to pass up.  Walker’s unit was […]

Batter Up!

Every now and again we head to the batting cages for fun. It was my first time going and I hit too. Much to my surprise, I even made contact with the ball. Afterwards, we spent a few quarters spent in the arcade as is the boys’ custom.  My presence is noted in a sneaky […]

Crossing the County Line

Today the boys and I took a field trip to the Vanderburgh 4-H Fairgrounds.  One of our friends shows pygmy goats.  We were lucky enough to see her and them while we were there.  The goats were fun and someone in our house might now want to have a goat reside in the backyard. We […]

Doing Wheelies

Today Mason and I headed down to the riverfront for some physical activity.  In our house, it’s a requirement before getting on the computer for games.  While bikes allow Mason to travel farther, my car is not equipped with the rack.  Even when we do have the bikes, sometimes the pacing is all off.  However, […]

The Royal Treatment

Although Mason was home for just an hour and was quite dirty and exhausted after a week of camp, he really wanted to go to his friend’s birthday party Saturday afternoon.  Mason wanted to so something special for his friend and I like consumable gifts so I suggested lunch and a movie on Sunday. Our […]

Boys Will Be Boys

Though this was not Mason’s first week at camp, it was his first week as a traditional camper.  Prior weeks were spent as a mini camper.  For the first time, his unit was comprised of kids of all ages and he was now able to participate in some new activities.  The first of these took […]

4-H Fair Week

This year we scaled way back on projects.  Mason chose to make Peanut Butter Squares from a recipe he found on YouTube for his cooking project.  He made these several times before to prepare and when we got back from Vegas, I made them with him again.  He and Bill cut them very precisely at […]

Off to camp

While I was out in California, Bill was back doing better than holding down the fort.  He got Mason off and settled at Boys’ Week at Camp Ondessonk.  As usual, they got there early with enough time to tailgate at the entrance.  Heepwah! It looks like Mason was one of the first to get through […]

Goodbye, Grandpa

Today was the funeral for my grandfather, Charley Johnson.  His celebration of life drew many people—our own family, friends from church, neighbors and then friends and family members of ours.  It was touching to see evidence of how many lives he had touched.  The bereavement group at St. Agatha’s Church made this display of artifacts, […]
