The next craft swap is on February 13th and I am making swap sets for eight ladies in all. Today I spent some time playing with fabric scraps. These will be part of the embellishment. This is one of my favorites from the day. The piece is wee—about 1.5” square!

Lost and Found
Monday Bill and I were running errands and it was pretty cold. Before we left, I tossed on my Crown Roast Cowl. After we got home, I noticed that one of my pearl earrings was gone. Instinctively, I touched my ear and the back fell to the floor. I began looking for the earring in […]
Catholic Schools Week
Today we celebrate the second day of Catholic Schools Week by sending our kids to school dressed as their favorite super hero. Mason opted to go as Ash, the main character from Pokémon. He pulled together all the components himself and grabbed the Poke Ball and Treecko as his props. He also designed and drew […]
Chicken & Dumplings—Midwest Style
After moving to Indiana, I learned that chicken and dumplings is a dish with regional variations. I don’t recall eating it very often growing up but I had ideas about what Chicken and Dumplings was. For me, it was a chicken stew base with clumps of biscuit dough cooked on top. Our first meeting of […]
Behind the Scenes
Last week Mason filled his first in a series of YouTube videos called Nosam Eats Things. After finishing his tasting of anchovies, he asked viewers to make suggestions. The first in the comments was for spam, thanks to Jordan. Spam it is! His stage manager prepared the plates. After an initial bite of Spam straight […]
Welcome to Jamestown
It turns out that a fort can be constructed in three afternoons of class time. I had my doubts. When I left them after day one, there was still much to do. Gavin contributed and painted that boat in the back and Mason supplied all the Jamestown figures. He was excited about those and they […]
Derby Time!
The Center was abuzz last night for the annual Pinewood Derby. The weigh-in and set up went as planned and the cars were lined up and numbered for their races. Every year I am more impressed with the transformation that takes place with the blocks of wood. Click on the picture above to see it […]
The Grand Reveal
Now for the debut of Mason’s pinewood derby car. Presenting Pikachu riding on a wedge of cheese. Mason wanted the paint job on the spoiler to echo Pikachu’s tail. We hope it does well and by well, we mean we hope it wins for speed and/or style. The race is tonight so there will be […]
Fill ‘Er Up
I danced a jig at the gas station today at the sub-two dollar gas price. I don’t know how long it will last but I will enjoy it while I can.
The Making of a Car—Phase Three
Tonight before bed, Mason peeled off the masking tape from his car which had gotten several coats of yellow spray paint. Then they taped off a new area and added brown to the spoiler. The derby is on Friday night and his car is so close to being finished.
