So, So Special!

The boys and I made a very fast trip out to Orange County this weekend to see Laynie and meet the newest member of our family, Sophia.  By fast, I mean we left Friday after school, got into OC at 10 PM, spent Saturday and Sunday morning with Laynie and Sophia and then boarded a […]

SeaPerch Competition

The Seventh Grade Team from left to right, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Weyer, Evelyn, Noah, Walker and Davis It’s the day we have been practicing for—the SeaPerch Competition at the Mount Vernon Junior High School’s natatorium.   After several hours of waiting between checking in and our assigned time, the team reviewed with their coaches and then […]

My Lucky Day

I love when being vulnerable and asking for help works out like this.  Oh, the joy of having great friends!

Striker’s a Survivor

Before Surgery A few weeks ago, Bill detected a mammary mass on Striker’s belly.  He expressed it and it went away.  When we noticed it returned and realized it was making Striker kind of stinky, we knew it was time for a visit to the vet.  After having the mass biopsied, we found that Striker’s […]

Let’s Tesla

At some point on Bill’s travels through the internet, he discovered the Tiny Tesla.  He was intrigued by the idea and thought it would be fun to build one with Mason.  A tesla coil is a form of induction coil for producing high-frequency alternating current. It uses a simple spark gap (a spark that jumps […]

Lodge Reunion Weekend

Walker could not have been happier to spend the weekend out at Camp Ondessonk.  The sun shone so brightly at sunset but what was more remarkable was how different everything looked.  The earth was starting to wake up from winter. He was happy to learn that he was staying this weekend in Garnier because he […]

Surprise Readers

Every Friday the kindergartners have story time with a surprise reader.  Today, Mason’s class read to their Mass buddies.  Mason has demonstrated a lot of patience with younger students over the year and this moment was quite endearing. He read Fly Guy’s Amazing Tricks and Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes.

A Budding Chef

I have to admit, Mason has been bit by the cooking bug and he is doing quite well.  He got up early to make breakfast Walker.  He chose the menu and executed the presentation all on his own. You can bet that Walker cleaned the plate.  Heck, yeah!

Eat Your Science

Our family has been long time lovers of Alton Brown.  Over the years, Bill and I have watched plenty of Good Eats with and without the kids.  Recently we expanded our love of Alton Brown to include his series, Cutthroat Kitchen.  It’s totally different than Good Eats but Alton’s personality shines through just as brightly. […]

Breathtaking

(a panoramic view looking West) We had to run out to the library tonight to grab a book and we were met with the most amazing sight.  I don’t recall the last time I saw a full arch of the rainbow much less the making of a double full arch. Sometimes storms bring the most […]
