Today was the Scout Sunday at St. John’s parish. After Mass, the scouts had an awards ceremony. Walker helped plan it and then acted as the Master of Ceremonies as a requirement for one of his merit badges.
The Cub Scouts were awarded their Duty to God and Parvuli Dei Religious Emblems by Deacon Tony.
Captain D presented all the Boy Scouts with the merit badges they had earned. Many of the boys had been working over the winter and, like Walker, received several.
Then Captain D went off script and recognized Bill.
Bill takes compliments quite modestly but I will share what Captain D’s wife posted on social media.
Captain D’s wife “A special thank you to Dr. Selby. He is the leader for the Cub Scouts AND the Boy Scouts. As Joe said, ‘The reason why we are all here is because of Dr. Selby.’ What a terrific and dedicated person!”
The Court of Honor ended on a high note with Austin presenting about his Eagle Project. He will soon be going up before the Eagle Review Board. Having the full range of scouts together to share in their accomplishments really emphasized the depth and scope of the scouting program at St. John’s. It’s a fine program!
I get a bit nervous when the Captain goes off script, but it was well deserved… glad you captured the moment and the words!
Tell me more about the title “captain” for MJ’s dad. What a well deserved honor for your hubby.
Dr. Bill deserves all the praise in the world. So glad I got the product-without-the-process as a son-in-law.
