Tonight was our first pack meeting for 2016-2017. It’s an exciting time for us as this is our last year as cub scouts. Mason will be crossing over from the Webelos to the Boy Scouts in February.
Bill, the new Webelos den leader, planned a very special and solemn opening ceremony. It began with Lee Greenwood’s song, “Proud to Be an American.” After the colors were posted and the opening prayer was said, the Webelos explained the meaning behind the scout law which states, “A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
For each of the principles, one of the Webelos read an explanation like this, “A scout is trustworthy. A Scout tells the truth. He keeps his promises. Honesty is a part of his code of conduct.” The reverence was impressive. You could have heard a pin drop.
Then our NEW cub scout master gave his opening remarks. Our pack is in good hands. Jeff was an Eagle Scout himself and it is clear he believes in scouting.
In appreciation for their years of service to the pack, Ted and Bill were recognized with plaque. Bill started as the assistant cub master in September of 2012 and became the cub master in February of 2014.
See? Jeff has spunk!
Mason closed our meeting by leading us in prayer. If tonight’s meeting is any indication of what to expect, it looks like our pack will have a great year.
Couldn’t be anything else but great. Have fun!
