After the boys departed for camp Sunday morning, I went home and got busy. I had a whole week at home alone. What to do? What to do? I felt compelled to do several loads of laundry, mop the floors and vacuum the house.
And then I started to play.
I had just completed all the blocks for my Slopes quilt, a design from Amanda’s book, and I wanted to get it completed for my trip on Thursday. I still quite a bit of work to do. I laid out the quilt and played with the design. I had 180 blocks to tinker with before I could sew it together. It took several hours of arranging and a few hours of time away before I started to sew. That evening I had dinner and TV time and opened a birthday card from each of the boys.
On my birthday morning, I met Krista and Kristy down by the river for a morning run. I worked on my quilt and then met some friends for lunch. When I returned home, I had a beautiful bouquet of flowers waiting for me from the boys.
I worked on my quilt in the afternoon until it was time to leave for dinner. We were a group of nine and it was wonderful go be surrounded by friends.
Before I went to bed, I opened two more birthday cards from the boys. This time I found a gift certificate in each one for a pair of shoes I had been wanting. This is my face after receiving the gift certificates.
Tuesday I took a road trip with Margaret to shop in Indianapolis. I rarely get to browse at the mall or poke through clothing stores so this was a big treat. Conversation was easy and we were great shopping companions. We went to Nordstrom, Athleta and L’Occitane before lunch at The Cheesecake Factory. We spent a few hours at Nordstrom Rack and then another at Trader Joe’s before heading back home. It was a fun and fruitful shopping day with a great friend. When I got home, I found another bouquet of flowers, this time tulips from Bill.
Wednesday the grand plan was to quilt and bind the Slopes quilt. It took all day but I nearly completed it before bed. All that was left was to pack and then I’d be off.
Happy belated birthday.
