Today starts the last session of camp for the summer. The boys were both so excited to get there that even though we were up super late with sashes, we were out the door by seven in the morning. We stopped for Starbucks and McDonalds breakfast and we still managed to arrive first at the gate.
Our waiting walk is one of my favorite traditions. I have no idea exactly how far it is from the camp entrance to the gate but it’s easily more than a mile. The road is bordered by beautiful trees and canopied by leaves.
Our check-in process was even faster this week than usual. Both boys were staying at the unit of Raganeau. Walker handed over his bag of sashes to the Lodge Official, they chose their bunks and we quickly got them situated.
What usually happens at this point is that we head to the waterfront for the swim test but this time, we only had to check in there. Because both boys had already taken and passed the swim test recently this summer, they were good to go. Even if they had to have taken the test, it would have gone fast. There was no one on the beach yet but staff.
At this point, we had done all the things we usually do. The boys were ready to get settled in so we said our goodbyes. Bill and I walked up to the front of the camp and observed the campers rolling in. We saw Walker making his rounds, greeting staff and we watched Mason wait by the gaga pit to get a game started.
It was a record time camp drop off. We were done so quickly that for the first time ever, we left while cars will still driving in to drop off. We hope, as always, that the kids have a safe and fun week with good weather at camp.
