All Hail the Mothers & Their Scouts

The Mother’s Day Scout Banquet and Court of Honor was a lovely way to spend the evening.  The scouts prepared a real feast which included a salad bar, baked ziti, vegetable kabobs, garlic bread and ice cream sundaes for dessert.

After they served us and we all ate, the traditional toast to the moms began.  Mason had warned me that he was following in Austin’s footsteps, a scout who one year prepared a written tribute to his mother that was difficult for the other scouts to match.  Indeed, he did!  I was beyond touched when he shared his writing in front of everyone.

Mama Bear

You are my mom.

And correct me if I’m wrong,

But when I get angry,

Who helps me get calm?

That person is you,

You are honest and true.

Your cooking really rocks and

You do laundry like my socks.

It’s fun to watch Seinfeld,

Especially with you.

You make me try something new.

So don’t mess around

When you hear the sound,

‘Cause my mom is the best around.

You are so cool.

You are my dog,

Because you are there

When times get rough.

The way you knit is the…best.

You help me to pass any test.

You help me when I’m sick.

Your love gives a fun kick.

I know you love me

And I know you care

And that’s why I love you.

You’re my mama bear.

The last scouts to share were Ben and Walker, the two oldest.  Ben’s mom, Maria, told them they had quite the job to do after Mason. They did well off the cuff.  I was just happy to see Walker and Ben at the banquet since they are in the middle of AP exams.

Lastly, we recognized the scouts who ranked up and earned merit badges since our last court of honor.  Mason received his Life Scout and a handshake from his dad.  Now he can officially begin the Eagle journey.

I was very touched and pleased by all the attention the scouts dished up tonight. As Walker and Mason grow up in scouts, I witness the example they set for the younger scouts and savor this Mother’s Day tradition.
