For many, many moons I have had a handful of lingerie bags sitting next to my sewing machine. They were all in need of some small repair. Zippers had broken and seams had come unsewn. The bags were otherwise in fine shape and I didn’t want to just discard them.
I wasn’t quite sure how to repair them but I knew I wanted to avoid raw and exposed seams where the zipper met the edges of the mesh. I did a lot of research on Pinterest before finally just stumbling up a tutorial on SewCanShe’s website.
One bag just needed the end of the zipper tacked down and the side sewn again. Since it was the easiest job, I started with it. It was so basic that I didn’t even take a picture of it.
Next I had a mesh bag that had lost the zipper pull and had open seams on the bottom. I followed the tutorial and installed a new zipper.
One of the large bags had a zipper pull that had come completely off. I cut off the top of the bag and added a zipper with the fabric facing. The new zipper I had was narrower so I cut the bag to its width and carried on with the tutorial.
I had one more bag that unusable. Because it was so large, I cut it apart and made two new bags. These last two were my favorite finishes because I figured out that I actually preferred having the zipper on the side rather than the top of the bag.
All in all this project that has been taking up mental space in my head for years took about two afternoons of easy sewing time. I am pleased to have repurposed the bags and rescued them with zippers and fabric I already had in my house.

Nice work…today I repaired a ripped pocket in Anna’s coat….it felt so good after putting it off for so long.
