Fall in Ferdinand

Today Bill and I returned to Ferdinand for our first Fall hike.  He and Walker were out here last weekend and did seven miles but I was unable to go.

The forest looks different now that Fall is here.   Everywhere we looked, there were leaves obscuring what once was an easily spotted trail.  The leaves were taking flight and at least once I stopped to listen to the sound of Fall happening before my eyes.

As we hiked along the start of the trail, Bill and I suddenly noticed that the trail was actually swept.  As abruptly as it began, it stopped.

At a fork in the path, the differences in the trails was very obvious.

The weather today was actually quite crisp.  We were appropriately dressed although cold when we first started off.  Bill wore double layer short sleeves and I had a long sleeve shirt, vest, gloves and hand warmers.  Soon we had acclimated and we agreed that dressing lighter was the right choice.
