Today the fifth graders took a field trip to the Boonville Courthouse for a mock trial held in a real courtroom.
Walker was one of the defense attorneys in a case about a girl who shoplifted. His co-counsel was Maren.
The prosecuting attorneys were Justin and Abby.
Each classmate had a role of some sort.
The presiding judge is my best knitting friend’s husband. Itβs a small town.
Sarah Kate, the accused, was found not guilty.
After the trial, there were a lot of questions about the death penalty in the Q & A session with Judge Meier. Then the class was given a tour of the Boonville Courthouse and the jail.
Walker was not too fond of the holding cells.
Brett Krause, the sheriff, was kind enough to facilitate the tour.
This is the recreation area at the jail. Some students were really apprehensive about being enclosed in an area with barbed wire while others were curious or intrigued.
The field trip ended with lunch at the park. Though he is almost as tall as his mother, it appears that my son has not outgrown the toddler section.
Quite an experience for these students.
Haha, I don’t think he’ll ever outgrow the toddler section π I haven’t! π
