It had been two years since Gramma and Papa had made the trip out here and we were glad to have them. Their arrival was significantly delayed on Thursday so I first saw them Friday morning for breakfast at Starbucks. We had a leisurely lunch at Cleavers and a home cooked meal with stories and catch up that evening.
Saturday before the confirmation, Mom helped me draft and sew a muslin of the Washi Dress. With Mom’s guidance, we tweaked it quite a bit and then in the end decided the fit just wasn’t right for me. Lesson learned.
Sunday was cinco de Mayo which meant we had to have Mexican food! The restaurant was loud and raucous but we enjoyed ourselves and made memories. We also had a lovely brunch at Nellie’s followed by a walk along the river. Walker and Bill tested on AP flash cards while Dad and I chatted. Gramma and Mason played Scrabble.
Walker, once again, came to Gramma’s aid and provided IT support on her Apple devices. Later that night, the boys went to scouts and I got to share the photo book of our Ecuador trip with Mom and Dad.
Monday was a low key day! Breakfast at Starbucks, chatting and relaxing at home and another home cooked meal. Tuesday Mom and Dad headed off to Indianapolis to meet friends of theirs and they were gone all day.
Wednesday was Mom’s birthday. She requested a visit to the Monastery at in Ferdinand. What an easy request! We met for an early breakfast and then arrived with time to spare for the 11 am EST tour. The weather was glorious. Sister Mary Emma Jochum was a lovely, engaging tour guide. Mom and Dad hit it off well with her. No surprise, she knew our pastor, Father Tom when he had hair which means they went way back!
We treated Mom and Dad to a birthday celebration at Cork and Cleaver. The meal itself was wonderful but I believe Mason took the cake with a birthday toast for Gramma.
Before we knew it, Thursday morning rolled around and it was time to say goodbye. This was one full visit—lots of love, conversation, one on one time and group gatherings. We were so glad they could visit and hope they do so again!
