The weather was absolutely beautiful for our friends’ annual egg hunt. Every year the invitation list gets longer as the number of friends grows. It’s a special celebration because it brings together families from so many circles—theirs and ours.
Their Easter Bunny doesn’t mess around. They filled and hid 7,057 eggs. Yes, 7,057! According to a spectator, the entire lot of eggs was retrieved safely in baskets in 7 minutes and 57 seconds. It was a flurry of activity!
I didn’t find Walker until the end way after he finished dumping his eggs out, but I did catch up to Mason. He dumped all the contents into his basket and I paired the eggs again for next year.
After the egg hunt, everyone gathered around for a meal. This year it was pancakes and an omelet bar. With all the colors, the food and the friends, it was such a satisfying and joyful afternoon plus we couldn’t have had a better weather day, especially after the downpour that took place on Holy Thursday and Good Friday.
After the egg hunt, Walker and Bill went to the church to participate in a boy scout service project. The scouts were asked to build a bonfire for the Easter Vigil. Who better than a bunch of scouts and scout dads to engineer a towering bonfire?
Here is the bonfire later that night. Taken out of context, this photo could be very misleading but it really was a celebration of coming out of the darkness and into the light of the Resurrection of Easter.
That is a lot of eggs and a beautiful bonfire!
Oh! So many questions…which families? where did you have it? How long did it take to fill all those eggs? What was in them? Do I need to send toothpaste to the boys?
One extra comment…what a wonderful way to start the Easter Vigil!
Nice fire! We always have a very small one out front. It is such a beautiful tradition and a beautiful Mass
What an amazing bunch of traditions!
