Please pardon the string of adjectives but I am trying to tie together a full day of important events. It started with Grandparents Day. The program backdrops were flowers with petals colored by each student.
The musical accompaniment this year was live and it added quite a bit to the program. Of course, they played while each class sang but it was such a nice touch to have music during the transitions.
Mason’s class sang “Blessed Be Your Name.”
I noticed the sticker on his shirt and discovered that he had lost a tooth. The green fleck on his lip was a sprinkle from the classroom treats. He was delighted as it has been a while since he lost one.
After the Grandparents Day program was over, we were allowed to sign out our students. I probably would have let them finish out the school day had it not been for the incredible opportunity to see Air Force One locally. President Obama came to town to visit Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana and he flew into Evansville Regional Airport. This was truly a historical opportunity and since we live relatively close to the airport, it was worth the effort to attempt to see what we could see.
There are a lot of photos but I wanted to document the experience. Air Force One is in the background just to the right of Walker’s ear.
A kind onlooker took this picture of the three of us. Air Force One is visible between my head and Walker’s.
It was parked way off in the distance but still, we were able to see it and even walk to the nearest fence for a relatively close view. On a closer runway was parked this U.S. Air Force plane. It was large. Really large.
For the sake of perspective, this was a full sized gas truck.
We spent a lot of time waiting by the fence, probably close to two hours.
We watched and watched.
I knit.
Finally the entourage arrived. It’s probably hard to see but the President arrived in those black cars. Then suddenly the skies turned and it started to rain.
He boarded the plane and it made its way along the runway to takeoff.
It was a unique takeoff. Because the runway is designed to accommodate smaller planes, Air Force One had to accelerate rapidly and make a steep incline.
Then it was off.
Finally, I’ll toss this last picture in as my artistic shot from the day.
What patience and endurance!
Great shots
Too cool! Remember looking at Ronny-Baby from Dad’s office window when we were kids?
