Walker’s second week of adventure camp was climbing. This adventure camp was locally based so they spent a few days at the beginning of the week learning the fundamentals of climbing before heading out.
Monday they practiced bouldering and top-roping at Pakentuck and a camp photographer followed them out.
Tuesday they did single-pitch and lead climbing in the Shawnee National Forest and then rappelling at Phantom’s Canyon.
Wednesday they drove to Jackson Hollow in the Shawnee National Forest and climbed the premier climbing destination in the Midwest. Walker attempted a multi-pitch climb before heading to Ferne Clyffe State Park to set up camp for the night. Their guide was from Vertical Voyages.
Thursday they climbed Cedar Bluff at Ferne Clyffe State Park in Southern Illinois.
Friday they learned about technical tree climbing and used the double rope technique to ascend some of the tallest trees at camp.
Kevan, Walker and Sam were three of the counselors that led Walker these last two weeks. What great staff!
