A few days ago I went for an early morning walk. The sun had not quite begun to rise and it was still dim. I passed by a neighbor’s house and saw a 2020 graduation sign. As I got closer, I realized it was not for their senior but rather for their middle school graduate. I kept walking my laps and when I got to our house, I realized we had been visited too.
Mason was not quite thrilled with the potential attention and/or recognition and quickly removed the sign to the garage.
A few days later, the principal asked each student to take a picture with his or her sign. Mason begrudgingly obliged but smile he would not.
Little did I know that then that the picture would be part of a slide show, visual recognition of the 8th grade class and their contributions to St. John the Baptist.
I have to give Mason credit for complying without compromising his true reaction and feelings about graduation in the time of Covid.
