Every now and then, knitting goes awry. A pair of socks I made and gifted to my friend, Liz, developed a hole. I noticed it when she was wearing them and told her I would fix it before it got worse.
While many people believe you should darn a sock by standing over the trash can saying, “Darn it,” I was not ready to let these socks go so quickly. I have not done much sock darning at all but I recently helped a friend repair a vintage blanket. That gave me the courage to attempt a repair on this sock. I decided to try my hand at visible mending since I knew it would be pretty hard to close up the hole seamlessly. I gathered some coordinating yarn and I went to town.
The hole is now gone and the visible mending remains. Best of all, Liz has a pair of snuggly socks again in her drawer.
