The Center was abuzz last night for the annual Pinewood Derby. The weigh-in and set up went as planned and the cars were lined up and numbered for their races.
Every year I am more impressed with the transformation that takes place with the blocks of wood. Click on the picture above to see it enlarged.
The kids lined up along the track and there was a full house of spectators.
Many scouts had several generations present to root for them and their cars.
The heats were quick and I was lucky to catch Mason’s car barreling down the track. He raced in eight heats and won first place in at least one.
Some of the heats were nail biters.
Bill oversaw many aspects of the evening and did a great job as the emcee.
After all the cars had run their eight heats, it was time to award the people’s choice for most creative cars. We couldn’t believe the results of the voting. Mason won second place for his car.
Just look at these three happy faces!
Lucianio, Mason and Braedon were the winners for the most creative cars.
These eight fellows had the fastest cars of the entire pack.
Garrett, Josiah and Ethan had the fastest Tiger cars,
Braeden, Matthew and Riley had the fastest Wolf cars,
Caden, Christian and Luke had the fastest Bear cars,
and Chase and Ryan had the fastest Webelos cars.
For the second year in a row, Chase won fastest car overall with Ryan and Josiah on his heels for second and third place.
Christian, Caden, Mason and Lucianio were the four big winners in Mason’s den.
I was so happy that all of Mason’s hard work had paid off. He really wanted his car to win in the creative category and he beamed all the way home.
What a handsome young man! Congratulations!
That is the coolest car we’ve seen! Mason you rock!
Great memories!
