Today Mason and I headed down to the riverfront for some physical activity. In our house, it’s a requirement before getting on the computer for games. While bikes allow Mason to travel farther, my car is not equipped with the rack. Even when we do have the bikes, sometimes the pacing is all off. However, scooters were another story altogether. They completely leveled the playing field and allowed us to stay in sync.
It was hot but Mason wore my hydration belt which helped us push farther than we both expected. I discovered that scooters use a whole different set of muscles than running and I welcomed this new form of cross training. As we rode, we discussed leg dominance and Mason taught me how to switch legs from one to the other. This is a bit harder than it looks.
We stopped several times to peer over the rails and along the rocks. Many people would call the flotsam and jetsam that accumulated junk but Mason described it as a treasure chest. Without supervision, I am sure he would have scaled down to the water’s edge to retrieve all kinds of interesting finds like an old rake, empty bottles and other traces of boating festivities.
We did a nice out and back trail of about three miles and when we were done, Mason told me he wanted to do it again. Woohoo! I love exercising along the Ohio River and love sharing that time with special people.
Love it! Not that you will ever get me to exercise with you. Actually you know that already. The best thing is that “a little child shall lead (teach) us.”
Blessed are those who learn from their children.
Thank you for what you have taught me! How’s that for a left-handed compliment directed to myself?
What a fun way to get some muscles worked on! 🙂
