Today was Walker’s first work day with help from other scouts. The eagle project requires that the scout demonstrates leadership and organization skills. Therefore, today Walker was more of a foreman than a worker. After one or two gentle reminders from Bill, I began asking Walker how he wanted things done rather than asking Bill.
The goal of today was to get all of the pieces sanded so chair construction could begin.
Walker explained to each scout what he needed him to do.
We all pitched in. Mason and I sanded as well.
Walker inspected our work and sometimes he refined our directions.
Joseph’s job was to stack the chair pieces back up and retie them.
Our volunteers came at 10 am, worked until lunch when we fed them pizza and homemade chocolate chip cookies, and we wrapped up at 2 PM. It was a very productive start and so encouraging to see so many people come out to help Walker.
Great start…looks like the process of making a quilt might be similar…getting all the pieces for each block together first.
Great work, Walker!
What a great leader Walker is! That is a lot of chairs in the making. I am very impressed. I wish we were there to help.
