We went from the Passion Project to the Science Fair. Seventh and eighth graders are given a list of topics and have to choose one. Allergic reactions piqued his interest. He devoted a lot of time looking for sources on the internet and then used his live at-home resource to process all the information he culled.
Once he had his information ready, he had to prepare a brief talk not to exceed five minutes and create a tri-fold.
He put a lot of work into both components and confidently gave his speech.
When all was said and done, he and his classmate Megan earned the recognition of Best Presentations in 7th Grade and Evelyn, Maren and Jen received the honor for Most Creative Presentations.
This last photo, which I took it before he started his presentation, is credit to Walker’s technological savvy and calmness under pressure. He had done his entire presentation in PowerPoint at home and uploaded to the cloud. When he got up to school, the school laptop he was using would not connect with the Promethean board and he had to quickly work around the problem. By the look of his pursed lips, I can tell he is not pleased. Thankfully, he was able to was able to download new drivers and carry on with none the wiser. Woohoo!
I love the serious, concentration in the last picture. cool under pressure, that’s what it’s all about!
Awesome!
