Mason invited me to chaperone the second grade trip to the Howell Wetlands. Though it had been several years since I went with Walker, the agenda had not changed much.
The classes were divided into small groups and half went on a walk through several ecosystems while the other half fished out specimens in the bogs. Our docent was quite knowledgeable about the area and had a good sense of humor to match that of the second graders’.
Any time there is water involved and leaning over the side of a walkway, I get nervous but no one fell in.
After the specimens were collected, they were classified, sorted and then released.
Lunch followed at the nearby park and everyone played on the playground equipment. Just before we boarded the busses, we gathered around the giant rock for the class picture.
