Our flight didn’t depart until noon so Bill and I had time to leisurely get up, have breakfast and go for another walk in the marina and the Gaslamp Quarter.
I had noticed this statue of the totem pole birdhouse when we zipped past yesterday on scooters but today I had a chance to get a closer look. This is my kind of art.
On this trip, I finished a special pair of convertible mitts for my mom. Initially, she requested fingerless mitts but then she elaborated and decided the option to make them mittens would be even better.
I was happy to find a pattern that combined her two wishes and even allowed me to incorporate thumb slits for easy texting. Mason was the sherpa that hand delivered them to her.
One of the perks of staying in the bay front was the view from our room. Off in the distance we could see the Coronado bridge and right below us was the marine terminal for Dole. This terminal was bustling for the entire duration of our stay. When we arrived, they were unloading the blue freighter pictured above. After offloading the containers onto trailers, they were parked and tethered to power to maintain refrigeration. This terminal imports tons of Dole bananas from Latin America every year.
In the middle of the night on Saturday, that blue freighter pulled off and attention shifted the Dole freighter. We watched container after container be lifted by crane and stacked one upon another. Bill and I are fascinated by this kind of action so we could have hung out there for hours on end. It was cheap entertainment.
On our walk we grabbed food for the flight and then headed off to the airport. We had sunny skies and smooth air all the way home.
