I suddenly realized the play is Friday and I should plan on having something for Walker after the performance. I knew flowers were an option but I wondered how much my 12 year old son would enjoy them. I asked around and then did a quick search on the internet. Candy bouquets came up. I knew that would be a winner in Walker’s book.
I made a quick trip to Dollar General for candy and supplies. The mini candy bars were easy to put my hands on but I didn’t find any Styrofoam or floral foam to stuff inside a vase as all the tutorials suggested.
Just as I was walking out of the store, I spied a bunch of Valentine cards and, more importantly, a bunch of artificial roses. I scooped up all they had and headed to the register. Thanks to the 90% clearance discount, my bouquet of 16 roses cost a mere $1.60.
I used low temp hot glue dabbed at the base of each flower bud and then I shoved the candy bar inside. Then I rummaged through my ribbon stash and wrapped the stems with white. I knew that rainbow was a key element of Walker’s costume so I added a few rainbow streamers and a little tag. The entire bouquet was under $5. Yahoo!
I’m thrilled with how the bouquet came out and I can’t wait to give it to him tomorrow after his first performance in Beauty and the Beast.
Do we have yet another opportunity to give out an Oscar to a Selby?
i LOVE this!! I will be copying it for Vinny’s upcoming performance as Troy in High School Musical. I am thinking I can find the flowers at Michaels maybe?
I love how you made this project your own!
