South of the border is where we were headed today. Our trip began with a drive to Nashville, Tennessee and a flight to Atlanta, Georgia. We took a slight detour from the domestic terminal to the passport offices where we completed the application for Global Entry.
After Walker breezed through TSA, he sneaked off and returned with a surprise for his mom. We don’t know why he has had TSA pre-check because we hadn’t paid for it until now, but it does have its perks.
Waiting at the gate in Atlanta, we met a nice gentleman named Efrain, an Ecuadorian who has resided in the US for the last 30 years. He was like a live guidebook, sharing information about what to do, sights to see and foods to try. He even invited us to his parents’ home for dinner later in the week.
The flight to Quito was just five hours. Because Ecuador does not follow Daylight Savings Time and we just jumped ahead, we were on the same time there as in Indiana.
We arrived in Quito about 10:30 PM, passed through immigration and grabbed our luggage. The hotel shuttle delivered us to our first hotel of the trip, Rincon de Puembo, just outside of Quito. Tomorrow begins our exploration of Ecuador.
