Let’s Ring Up the Curtain

Opening night was finally here, the stage was set and we were ready for the curtain call.

Belle captured the audience with the first song as she wandered through the market.  We waited eagerly for Gaston and LaFou to make their entrances.

Gaston’s solo finally came and he and LaFou, his sidekick, charmed the audience.

LaFou was dramatic and slightly silly and Walker played out the role so well.

Then Cogsworth and Lumiere,

and finally, LaFou had his solo.

The choreography was wonderful and Walker had some surprise moves.

Be Our Guest was so much fun to watch.

Belle and the Beast finally danced!

IMG_4644The final song brought everyone out on stage.  I’m not sure if Walker’s feet touched the ground after the final bow.

The flowers were a great hit with Walker as well as the other students and their parents.

Mrs. Becker was the director and even though her son, Lumiere, is graduating, we have been told she will be continuing with the play in the upcoming years.

Thanks to my back stage BFF, I  have this happy shot from before the play.

This last shot is just for kicks.  The director’s family sat in front of us and their daughter directed the play the first year. (This is the third year we have had the middle school play.)  She is now away at college so Mr. Becker face timed with her for the entire performance so she could see it live.  Apparently her theater included popcorn.

Though the play preparation involved rehearsals four days a week from early January until now and meant sacrifices for the entire family, Walker enjoyed every minute of it.  The experience has changed him.  When the talk of the play began, he intended to participate as a member of the backstage crew running the light and sound boards but his music teacher insisted he audition.  Now that he’s had a taste of the limelight, I doubt there is any turning back.  My only question is which part will he play in next year’s performance.
