Ever since Bill started filling the feeders with thistle and suet, we have had a full house.
The squirrels have always tried to sneak food for themselves, so this time we actually put something out for them.
On the human front, Mason has been asking for a while to visit Old Chicago to have what he calls dough balls. They are basically bite sized pieces of pizza dough that are fried. He loved them when he had them last but for some reason we had not been back since then.
He and I went alone for lunch today. (Walker decided he wanted to see if he could fast for 24 hours since our youth group recently did a fast. He wondered if he could do it too. Turns out, yes he can! He actually fasted for longer but that’s another story.)
When we reviewed the menu, we noticed dough balls were not listed. Mason was crestfallen and I couldn’t blame him. I asked to speak to the manager to inquire why they had been removed from the menu. Apparently, they were not a big seller so they were phased out. Out of the kindness of his heart, the manager surprised us by making up a special batch just for Mason.
The sight of the dough balls made Mason a happy man. He knows he will not have them again there but at least he had one more chance to enjoy them at Old Chicago.
