When Kim, Mason and I got up, we went out to find breakfast somewhere new. We walked out toward Bryant Park and picked up vittles at Pret A Manger and Whole Foods.
We took our findings and ate in the park.
This apple was part of my breakfast. I had forgotten how fresh fruit was often wrapped in plastic to extend its shelf life. Ah, memories.
The whole reason for this NYC trip was our niece Taylor’s wedding but before we get to that glorious event, we had to get there.
Bill flew in from San Francisco on his red-eye flight and drove to Midtown to pick us up and take a shower. Then we were off to Westbrook, Connecticut. We stopped on our way at the Old Colony Diner in Bridgeport for lunch. There is something comforting and nostalgic about a good old-fashioned East Coast diner like juke boxes at the tables and expansive menus. This one had a whole page of just avocado offerings! Mason poured over the jukebox pages and we were serenaded by his selections as we dined.
Diner food:: Greens & garlic omelet, tomatoes instead of potatoes, rye toast {Suz} // Greek salad {Bill} // chicken and waffles {Mason} // avocado omelet with potatoes {Kim}
The wedding was held at the Water’s Edge Resort and Spa in Westbrook, Connecticut. Taylor has always loved the beach so it was no surprise that she planned a wedding by the water.
Caitlin, Taylor’s sister, walked in with Jason’s best man, a fellow Hoosier in from Indianapolis.
One of my happiest memories of the day was watching Taylor’s parents give her away.
Taylor and Jason exchanged their vows and then shared tender wedding promises. We witnessed the wedding from the grass and the guests of the resort who were not enjoying the water stood and witnessed the wedding from the beach.
We did not get much time with Taylor and Jason but the reception was a family reunion of sorts for us.
Tony (left) is Kyle’s brother in law and Kyle is Bill’s brother.
Megumi is a longtime family friend of Kyle and Monica’s and she and her boyfriend, Paul, are big hikers. Megumi will always have a special place in my heart as she came and spectated when I ran the NYC Marathon.
When Mason was not at our sides, he could be found practicing Five Finger Fillet with his new seahorse bottle opener.
Jason has a son named Danny. He was an awesome member of the wedding party and blew bubbles during the first dance.
Look at this handsome group of cousins.
Brothers Kyle and Bill caught up on things big and small. Though this photo is of poor quality, it evokes brotherly love.
Sisters in law, Monica and I, will always be connected by heart strings.
Lastly, Caitlin, Taylor and Kim made this aunt very proud.
We were so grateful to be able to witness Taylor and Jason Kormes tie the knot!
Ok, so you will have to email me the connections. Are Kim and Taylor cousins on Bill’s side? Because you have a sister with a similar name to the sis in law….right?
I love a good family reunion!
