Though Mason completed his Board of Review and earned the rank of Eagle in November, we held off to have his celebration until now. We were hoping that perhaps others might also rank up with Mason but alas, he is the only one of his group.
We met at church and Bill was the Master of Ceremonies. That’s his speech gesture.
Captain D gave an overview of all of the merit badges that Mason had earned and shared what his accomplishments were. Captain D has been doing this job for many years and always personalizes his remarks about how scout has progressed from the rank of tenderfoot to Eagle.
In our celebration, other scouts from the troop read about each trait in the boy scout oath (trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent) and Mason lit a candle.
My job as the Mother of the Eagle Scout was to swap out his old kerchief and slide for the new Eagle ones and to receive a special Mother’s pin.
Mason then pinned Bill with a Father’s pin.
Roger presented Mason with a certificate on behalf of the Knights of Columbus and liaison between our troop and the church who sponsors this group.
Finally, Mason gave a short speech to recognize someone who had been really influential in his scouting journey.
He chose Chris. He is an engineer who frames houses and possesses a wealth of knowledge about carpentry. Chris walked him through the ins and outs of building the gaga pit. He instructed him about how to level the area with plumb lines, guided him toward what kind of wood and special screws to buy, how to use templates and then cut the wood. Chris and his family donated hours and hours to help Mason transport a patch of grass to a well-loved gaga pit.
Mason had the support of several friends as well as many scout families.
We are delighted to be a family with two Eagle scouts. This has been quite the journey and I am proud of both of the boys.
We invited everyone to join us for dinner and dessert. Mason requested salad and meatball subs and I also served meatballs and stuffed acorn squash for those who were abstaining from meat.
Tonight was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Mason and all of his hard work.
Congrats! I was sorry to have missed it!
Awww. so nice!! Joel’s Court of Honor is on a Covid hold. (He finished before, but I didn’t want to interfere with Carolyn’s senior year things which didn’t happen anyway.) What can you do? He is being Confirmed in the fall (It was purposefully moved to the fall, then as it turned out, it wouldn’t have been able to happen at the typical spring time….strange how things happen), anyway, maybe we will double dip that weekend.
