For the second year, Walker participated in the Math Bowl. This year it was held at Christ the King School on the eastside of town.
Walker and two friends submitted a design for the shirt and theirs won.
Because there was such a great interest in participation, we had two teams from St. John.
The score keeper on the right in the blue shirt is our principal’s daughter. She had to stand still for two hours straight! Walker is the yellow shirt in first row, far right.
Scoring is much more complicated than just straight points so even when two schools have the same score, one may be farther ahead than the other.
The final results were as follows:
11th place: St. Teresa
10th place: St. Joe in the Country
9th place: St. John the Baptist Gold Team
8th place: Good Shepherd Gold Team
7th place: West Side Catholic
6th place: Christ the King
5th place: St. John the Baptist Blue Team
4th place: St. Phillip
3rd place: Good Shepherd Green Team
2nd place: St. Wendel
1st place: Resurrection
Walker was on the St. John the Baptist Blue Team.
At the end of the bowl, every participant receives a ribbon and the stream of students is fast and steady. This was the best I got. Next year I will remember to bring my zoom lens for Walker’s last year on the Math Bowl Team.
Photo Credit: The first picture is yet another picture that I swiped from Maria’s blog. She was a proctor at the Math Bowl and had a much better vantage point than I did in the stands.
Love this idea! Matthew had Math Olympiad….,but it was throughout the year at school….good stuff but not so exciting. It wasn’t Carolyn’s cup of tea, but I hope they have it starting next year for Joel.
Fabulous, Walker!
Fantastic that there were so many kids interested! How cool that Walker has such an interest in being involved with school and learning!
