It was the second annual celebration of Dictionary Day at St. John the Baptist. It was a festive opportunity to dress up again and parade through the halls.
Mason’s word was opulent, defined as exhibiting or characterized by opulence: such as having a large estate or property : WEALTHY or amply or plentifully provided or fashioned often to the point of ostentation.
When I asked him how he chose his word, he told me it was fashion driven. He searched for one that would allow him to wanted to wear a Supreme shirt and Bape shorts. His plan slightly backfired as the connection to opulence was lost on me and I refused his request. On face value, there was nothing wealthy about a basic black shirt and a shark grin pair of sweat shorts. I have since learned how opulent those items actually were.
He made it work with this black T-shirt instead. Unfortunately, the only photo I have of him is in the group shot above.
The middle school team really took on the vocabulary challenge with a Wizard of Oz theme.
Mrs. Janney and Mrs. Humm made quite the bookends for Mr. Rippenhoff.
The vocabulary winners were creative in their interpretation. It’s our last dictionary day at St. John but I bet the tradition will carry on.
wonderful idea!!! great to get some ACT words in early! (glad you skipped the BAPE shorts!) Thanks for the link….no purchase here either.
