Our first Communicant

The sacraments are an incredible rite of passage in our faith.

I can’t believe this day is finally here for Mason.  He looks so mature and handsome. His smile captures my heart.

The wall of communion banners was quite a neat reflection of the kiddos.

This handsome group of fellows grabbed a seat in the very front.

Our family was well represented physically and in spirit.

Father Tom is a talker and a joker at times.  While I have a picture of him and Mason that is more reserved, this is the way I think of him.  He always has something to say.  While he does not pass up an opportunity to tell a joke or share a funny anecdote, his homily was quite sentimental and serious today.  He reached under his chasuble and pulled out a necklace that belonged to his father who passed away many years ago.  He said he wore it all the time, removing it only when he shaved and that wearing it allowed him to carry a piece of his dad with him every day.  His message was that receiving Holy Communion is our opportunity to have God with us every day.

After Mass, we went around the the prayer garden in search of Mason’s brick.

It has a place right next to his brother’s and the only flower in bloom around the fountain was in front of Mason’s.  That felt like a God wink.

Our celebration after the communion included lunch and Mason’s choice:  a Brookie cake.

  • Congrats, Mason!
1-I didn’t even know you could still get bricks there. I was thinking, “Wait, she hasn’t been here since after they built that!”
2-I have never heard of a brookie cake. I thought about googling it, but it’s probably better I not and just leave it to my imagination. 🙂
