Video games and boys go hand in hand and keeping up with the latest and greatest is not always easy. If I want to get Mason talking about something, I know the soon-to-be released PlayStation VR is the ticket. Two weeks ago we tried to check out the VR in its limited availability trial and our efforts were foiled. We revisited the dates and locations and discovered we could make another trip to Louisville today during the golden demonstration hours.
We waited patiently and Walker graciously let Mason have his turn first.
The way this works is that the player puts on the VR headset and a pair of headphones. Then when he plays the game, it’s as if he is part if the experience. I did not try it as I get a little motion sick during in flight motion simulators.
At this point, there are a limited number of games that will be released for the VR. Walker played a Super Hypercube and Mason did Battle zone.
After the VR, we headed to Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes. I loved this cross and thought it would be such a neat idea to borrow as an art project for our school.
Each student decorated a tongue depressor and then they were all mounted on a pair of crossed 2x4s.
I researched a bunch of Louisville restaurants and we chose El Mundo, a Mexican restaurant located in the Clifton neighborhood, a few minutes from downtown. The restaurant itself has a self-serve area in the front and wait service in the back and upstairs. The décor was fun and funky with an air of Día de los Muertos. Mason had mango, chipotle glazed shrimp fajitas, Walker the big burrito with bison, Bill the nachos (which were prepared like nachos should be [no queso!]) and I had huevos rancheros. The food was outstanding and we will definitely return. Clifton is a diverse, artsy neighborhood and the main drag with the restaurants ran parallel with the train tracks. I’d love to return here, walk and window shop. There were lots of coffee shops there too.
Finally, it was time to head home. GPS led us past this incredible house on the corner of Frankfort Street and William Street. We didn’t know what to make of it but it turns out we stumbled upon Jerry’s Junk, a local attraction. This is a picker’s paradise! Jerry himself was sitting in the doorway watching people drive by and take it all in which is, in fact, what he wants onlookers to do. There are so many artifacts it is hard not to gawk. This again is a spot I’d like to walk by because in the car, it was impossible to take it all in. I mean, really, where else can you find all these crazy things in one place?!
That was the end to our great VR experience and it was indeed a fabulous part of our reality.
What amazing sites. I love the cross especially.
I am with you….virtual reality would probably make me want to lie down for the day! I ruined a trip to an amusement park by going on the first roller coaster of the day….and was sick for hours after.
Love the Statue of Liberty! Looks like lots of fun.
