Prayer and Song

To prepare for Holy Week, our parish invited John Angotti to lead us in a prayer service.  John has been in concert at St. John before and even performed one year at the school’s annual gala fundraiser.  I have always enjoyed his music and I was intrigued by what the night would hold since we were warned this was not a concert.

His role this time was more of a storyteller and throughout the hour service, he intermittently sang a song or two.  John reminds me a little of Billy Joel with his piano playing and rock style music and that made for an enjoyable evening.  One of the songs he sang was his composition called, Sing Hosanna to Our King. It has a chorus that is easy to memorize and he asked everyone to sing that part.  Then John had all the kids stand up and sing the chorus while he sang the refrain.  Next thing I knew, John called Walker up front to the microphone to sing with him.  I had video fail but I did capture the sounds.

Lest Mason be left out of the action, he too had a voice cameo.  Later that night, Walker and I noticed that Mason sang, “Send Lasagna to Our King” as a mondegreen for Sing Hosanna to Our King.  I have yet to mention it to John Angotti but being the proud Italian man that he is, I bet he will love it.

At the end, we all sang Lord I Lift Your Name on High, a favorite at our parish.  Hand gestures accompany the lyrics which is why some people have theirs up.
