Since the beginning of the school year we have adopted Family Reading Time. Very simply, it’s a 30 minute block of time when we each sit down as a family and read a book of our own choosing. We set the timer, silence our phones and dive into our books.
Because the weather was so nice today, we each took post somewhere outside. Mason and Walker often climb to the roof of the playhouse and read there. Today, though, Walker snuggled in his hammock and I assumed his spot with Mason.
I used to read avidly but it’s been harder for me to carve out the time as of late. When I have been reading, it’s been when I crawl into bed and the mere posture of a book in hand and a pillow at my back has knocked me out.
Since I’m actually reading with my eyes open, I’m making much better progress. I chose Kisses from Katie as my first book. I borrowed this from a friend several years ago and I’m embarrassed to say it has sat on my nightstand that long. Chapter by chapter, it’s really filling up my cup and it has been an uplifting page turner.
Now that I am reading again, I can’t wait to see how many more books I finish this school year. Recommendations are always welcome.
Love Amazima. I read the same book. Right now a lot of my reading is with Anna. She loves HArry P. but isn’t quite at that reading level. Luckily I like HP.
Go, Betsy. HP just gets better and better.
Hooray for the reading time. Great idea.
I have a few suggestions for books if you are interested, even if you aren’t!
How many days a week are you able? Love that you do this. It shows in Walker’s enthusiasm and abilities!
