In celebration of Earth Day, Mason and his class brainstormed some ways they could protect our world. They made a list and then they went about school and outside taking pictures to represent the actions.
I got an email from his teacher alerting me that Mason had found something unexpected in the yard when he was looking for litter. She quickly took it from him and then redirected him.
His teacher shared with me the graphic organizers they created in class. The one above is the one she published with the kids on the popplet app and the one below is the one she created but deleted after she realized what Mason had found.
This evening I asked Mason about the Earth Day activity, probing to find out if he would mention what he discovered. He didn’t say anything at first but he finally told me he found something and his teacher would not tell him what it was. Then he dropped the subject. Thank goodness for small favors.
I’m sure one day we will tell him the story of the day he found a tampon but today I’m glad we don’t have to go there.
(For the record, the item was not used and the teacher supervised a really thorough hand washing after she confiscated it.)
