The Seventh Grade Team from left to right, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Weyer,
Evelyn, Noah, Walker and Davis
It’s the day we have been practicing for—the SeaPerch Competition at the Mount Vernon Junior High School’s natatorium.
After several hours of waiting between checking in and our assigned time, the team reviewed with their coaches and then lined up by their lane.
As I mentioned, there are two kinds of challenges in the competition: orbs and obstacles. Davis will be driving our robot (the green one in the second lane from the bottom) and Evelyn will be handling the tether. They already raced the clock traveling through the hula hoops from the edge of the pool and turning back and now they are trying to release as many balls as they can from that white mechanism.
While Davis drives, Evelyn is reeling out the right amount of cord.
The final results were nail biters. Our eighth grade team, the Goats, ranked first place and our seventh grade team, le Sea Porsche, tied for fourth place. Unfortunately, Walker’s team just missed going to Nationals too.
It was indeed a great day for our group. Besides coaching our school teams, Mrs. Weyer also worked with her son’s team (the two boys in navy) from Memorial High School.
The eighth graders are headed to SeaPerch Nationals in Baton Rouge in a few weeks. We will be wishing them well.
I got by with a little help for my friends knitting a prayer cowl for a friend who needed a little extra love while I waited for our meets.
Stitch on!
