Conference days start pretty early for Bill and the boys and I followed suit. We were up and out the door to the Kennedy Space Center by 10 am. It’s a big complex and there was a lot to take in. Since we didn’t have much time, we started with the bus tour to get the overview.
This Nasa building rests on eight acres of land and is where the SLS (space launch system) is built. The doors were utterly impressive, taking 45 minutes to completely retract to an open position. The grid marks on the ground are from the transports that look like giant tanks.
Spacex also has a presence there with the Falcon Heavy scheduled to launch.
While Walker and I roamed around, Mason did some bird watching.
Following the space center, we took a slight detour past the Tesla showroom where Walker got a charge out of seeing all the models in one place. He loves Tesla as much as he loves Apple and aspires to one day own a Tesla Model S.
Right now this is the closest he can afford.
After dinner in the hotel, we hopped aboard the busses and headed to the AAP private event at Universal Islands of Adventure, the main reason the boys wanted to go to the conference. Though the park was operating a limited number of attractions, we had a blast. We walked right on Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and then immediately rode it again.
They sampled the butter beer
and then Walker used his interactive wand to cast spells and create magical experiences.
Two happy parents visited Starbucks while their kids ran off and rode Doctor Dooms FearFall and Amazing Adventures of Spider Man. Then as a family we rode the Incredible Hulk Coaster and Skull Island: Reign of Kong. The four hours went quickly and at midnight we boarded busses back to the hotel.
